Even though Sanguine is covered in snow year round, it is still amazingly warm, much like the blood that had swam through the streets in its history. You see, Sanguine use to be a harbor where slaves rested for a while before being shipped else where. Dragging these helpless humans and elves into a new life of slavery. Wars were wagged for this very reason and once the slaves were free, the elves began to mate with whomever the pleased. Thousands of years later, elves looked no different than humans, forcing their race to become one with the human kind they had hated. Some family may be raised with elven values, but they are still considered humans so many of these elven humans have simply began to ignore their ancestry in order to raise to the title of imperial or even be considered a hero when they were a Shepard or mage. This was all in the past as there are no more heroes, especially mage heroes as mages are viewed as dangerous by all because of the Shepards who are attempting to taint everyone's mind. Bent on a religious war, Shepards have been treating all mages like the slaves of the old days. Much like a rubber band, the mages have been stretched out to far and soon...they will snap.
(the military)
Sanguine Aisle has a military force of their own and act outside of the rule of the Sheperds. Their duties are to protect the city and its surroundings from any attacking force. The military is equipped with all the weapons they need: guns, swords, and bows. The military may not be a group of its own, but it is the home for both denizens, imperials, and mages (not heretics). Denizens are often just grunts, only the truly intelligent are raised to the rank of an officer. As for imperials, even the stupidest of them are instantly a low ranking officer because of their money. Mages, however, are often accompanied by a Shepered, but mages often work the vehicles in the military from their simple jeeps to their full blown tanks. Mostly because it is cheaper to have a mage pilot them rather than get the required fuel and have someone else drive the vehicles.
(magic)
Magic rules this world quite well and is how this world runs. Every piece of modern technology is powered by a mineral that holds magical attributes. But this very mineral was created into a fine liquid and fuels the cars. Though if you have an automobile and you just so happen to be a mage, you can run the car all by yourself! However, magic is not something you can just acquire through practice, though it does take practice to master. One is either born with magic or not, there is no middle ground. Many have tried drinking the liquid that fuels their technology in order to gain magic, but this very act has been banned by the Shepards after several denizens were found dead due to drinking the red liquid. This liquid is often referred to as mystiriel. Yet this liquid is not the only aspect of magic you should be aware of. In fact, there are several types of magic within the world that you should know about: healing, elemental, spirit, nature, arcane, necromancy, & blood. Healing magic does as it implies, healing those who require it and augmenting the abilities of someone to make them better. Elemental magic tends to be more along the lines of offensive spells revolving around the elements: fire, ice, water, and air. Spirit magic calls upon the spirits of old and their own, causing damage to those around and able to heal themselves with the souls of the fallen. Nature magic revolves around manipulating the environment and using it to the caster's advantage. Arcane calls upon the spells that are based purely upon magic itself from simple teleportation to more extravagant spells such as astral projection. For necromancy, this banned magic type revives the dead or uses their body for more disastrous deeds, so it is banned. Another banned type of magic is blood magic because it uses the very life force of the caster or someone else (willing or not) and creates magic that is forbidden! Blood magic can control the actions of the living (to a point with strong willed humans) and often calls demons to the aid of the caster. Blood magic is heavily frowned upon and completely forbidden while necromancy can be tolerated as long as the bodies have been signed over to the mage in question and a Shepard is there any time necromancy spells are cast.
(mysterial)
Mysterial powers everything within this world from the vehicles, as stated before, to guns and is even used as batteries for your everyday material. The Shepard's are the ones that oversee the harvesting of mysterial and every mysterial plant is heavily guarded! Attempting to gain entry to one of these plants is a quick way to get yourself killed. You see, mysterial holds magic within its very essence and those who control magic can control the world. So all mysterial is refined by the hands of Shepards and when it is created for cars and guns, it can only be used for those purposes! So harvesting and producing the required mysterial is a safe guarded secret of the Shepards, but it is not the only secret they hold within their grasp. In fact, no one knows where mysterial comes from as the Shepards claim it is an ore dug up from the ground, yet no one has ever seen a mysterial mine, only the plants that refine this material. This causes people to ask questions and questions make people disappear.
(religions)
There are four main deities within this world, but all religions agree that the other gods and goddesses do exist. The main four main deities are the Rotearca, the goddess of creation; Aniverm, the god of war; Nevin, the god of love; and finally there is Rytesia, the goddess of death. Beyond those main four, there are many other deities within the world, but none are fully recognized like those four. Rotearca is the main deity of the Shepards and they follow her ways in everything they do, even if they perverted some of her ways to suite their agendas.
(hierarchy)
Even though Sanguine Aisle is modern with its tastes for clothing and weaponry, Sanguine still holds on to the king and queens of its land. Having a specific family being in rule makes things far less complicated for those who live in the area. This means there are lords, dukes, and other titles of power within Sanguine Aisle. However, all of these titles are only given to imperials and to marry someone not an imperial while holding this title means you give the title. So the rules are quite strict, but with power, comes people watching your every move.
(weaponry)
There are all sorts of weapons within Sanguine and though many people enjoy a good pistol at their side, there are still a few who prefer to have a sword at their side. The rules on carrying a weapon are quite simple, all weapons must be out in the open! If you are caught with concealed weapons, you can be put in jail without a trial. Guns require bullets if you are not a mage (which means mages cause use their own magic to create their own bullets and many do). Bullets consist of metal and mysterial powder that acts as the firing agent and since mysterial is one of the ingredients in making bullets, all gun owners are required to have a license to use mysterial. The process of gaining a license can be quite lengthy so many people own guns illegally and to be caught with a gun illegally often means death (especially if you are caught by a Shepard.)
